Natural beauty of Marupite vicinity and its history
In the ancient past, Marupite fed Riga with flour thanks to mills and boats. Plants that eat aquatic animals have been found in these waters. Stories have also been heard that the water was so pure that it could be used for drinking.
We will see historical small estates on the banks of Marupite and other interesting historical sites. Black alder bog and moderately wet meadows. In the summer of 2011, one of the most serious environmental disasters in Latvia took place in Marupite, we will learn what impact remains today.
Meeting point: bus 25 stop “Marupe” (Rozu iela 2, Marupe). The trip will end at Mara Pond in Riga.
It is advisable to wear clothes you are not afraid to soil, and don’t forget about mosquitoes. Spare shoes or socks are recommended. There may be wet places and puddles near Marupite. An umbrella or a raincoat may also come in handy.
Take snacks and drinks with you for lunch, a picnic break will be on the banks of Marupite, depending on wishes. Shops will be available.
